Centering Prayer introductory workshop at St. Andrew's

Please keep Fr. Robert Wilson, who was largely responsible for bringing Centering Prayer to Fort Worth and furthering its practice, in your prayer.

This “Prayer of the Heart” dates back to the desert fathers and mothers of the fourth century. It is an introduction to contemplative life as practiced in monasteries and convents to this day, but one designed by Trappist monks for the use of the laity as well.

The Trappists’ intention was to renew the Christian contemplative tradition. To that end, they established Contemplative Outreach.

The workshop at St. Andrew’s will take place in the chapel from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with registration at 8:45 a.m. Pre-registration is not required. All are welcome.

The workshop will consist of talks by Fr. Wilson on the roots of Centering Prayer and the Christian contemplative tradition, two breaks, and a guided experience of the prayer. Centering Prayer is an act of resting in the presence of God, sitting in quiet and letting God speak to us in the depths of our hearts in his original language, silence.

Fr. Wilson has been practicing the prayer for 25 years. He has lectured extensively on Centering Prayer and serves on the board of Contemplative Outreach of Fort Worth.
