Living the Contemplative Life Today

Contemplative Outreach-Fort Worth invites anyone seeking a more contemplative and authentic way of life to a gathering at Holy Family Catholic Church in Fort Worth on Saturday, Dec. 16.

The gathering is part of a quarterly series of get-togethers sponsored by the local chapter of Contemplative Outreach, a worldwide spiritual network of individuals and small faith communities committed to renewing the contemplative dimension of the Gospel in everyday life, primarily through the practice of Centering Prayer.

The December event at Holy Family will feature a video presentation by Trappist Fr. Thomas Keating titled Living the Contemplative Life and will include Fr. Keating's Closing Homily at the Contemplative Outreach Annual Conference at the Crossings in Austin in 2005. In the video, Fr. Keating explores the various dimensions of the contemplative life and how it can be lived out in today's frenetic and often confusing world. The homily explores more deeply the scripture Matthew 6:6 ("But when you pray, go to your inner room ...") "and how it blossoms us into new levels of intimacy with the Lord."

The event will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Education Room at Holy Family, 6150 Pershing Ave., Fort Worth, 76107. It will include a period of Centering Prayer, or prayer in quiet, and discussion of the videotape. Refreshments will be served. The event is free.
